The OB-Xf Polyphonic Collection takes the sound of a classic polyphonic synthesiser architecture and turns it towards an older musical vocabulary.
Instead of reproducing the familiar language of analogue synthesiser presets, these sounds use the OB-Xf’s polyphonic character to create strings, organs, winds, choirs, brass, plucked instruments and other voices inspired by Renaissance music.
The result sits somewhere between historical instrument and electronic instrument. A sound may suggest a viol or consort at one moment and reveal itself as unmistakably synthetic at the next.
The collection is particularly suited to modal music, sustained harmony, counterpoint, drones and layered arrangements, where the polyphonic nature of the instrument can be put to good use.
