Surge Instrument Engines brings the Neo-Renaissance instrument collection into the powerful and flexible Surge synthesiser.
The collection contains instruments based upon a broad range of historical timbres: plucked strings, bowed strings, winds, reeds, brass, percussion, voices, organs and other sounds drawn from the musical vocabulary of early European music. The project files include instruments such as fiddle, handbells, harpsichord, hurdy-gurdy, lute, organ, recorder, rebec, theorbo, viol consort and vocal sounds.
These are not intended as museum pieces. They are working instruments for modern composition.
They may be played plainly, layered into larger arrangements, processed beyond recognition, or used as the beginning of entirely new sounds.
For modal composition, counterpoint, ambient music, electronic production and sound design, Surge provides the engine; this collection provides another vocabulary with which to drive it.
